Two matches into the second leg of this season's Kenyan Premier League campaign, the league table is further stiffening up, with only six points separating the top four teams.
Club coaches, players and the technical benches are doing their best to ensure that maximum points are grabbed per game so as to end the season in the best position possible. The top positions are however a no man's land, with several teams interchanging places after every match, a result which might set up a tough duel towards the end of the campaign similar to 2012 when Tusker FC snatched the title from Gor Mahia on the last day of competition following the latter's draw with Thika United in their final match.
Posta Rangers, who are currently second on the log standings, are one of the teams who are very optimistic of claiming this year's title glory. The feat will however not come easily judging from how the league table presently is and their coach Sammy `Pamzo' Omollo is well aware of the competition that they will have undergo to fulfill their ambitions.
Speaking to KS, Pamzo expressed his views on the team that are likely to be crowned champions this year, listing four possible clubs that are strong title contenders.
``According to me, this year's title contenders are Tusker who are the defending champions, Posta Rangers, Ulinzi Stars and Gor Mahia. These are the four strong teams that are capable of lifting the trophy.''
``So if you want to win the league, you must pick points from these teams that are title contenders. On our side (Posta Rangers), we are aiming to pick maximum points against these teams so that we can be in a better position and atleast finish among the top places,'' he added.
Gor Mahia are currently at the top of the league table with 37 points, having played a match less than their closest rivals. Posta Rangers come in second with 33 points while defending champions Tusker FC sit third with 32 points.
Sofapaka are fourth with 31 points, two more than Bandari who wrap up the top five positions. Ulinzi, who were also named by Pamzo as one of this year's title contenders, lie sixth overall with 29 points from 19 games.
