| Can Gor Mahia and Tusker Save Face Kenya's Bleak Club Perfomance? |
|
By Francis Ontomwa, Let’s take a minute…what are their chances? Can Gor and Tusker save face the country’s bleak club performance at continental and regional levels? Tusker must brace themselves well to counter the antics of the Rwandese club that currently is placed second in their local league. Although APR lost 3-2 to Police FC in their immediate premiership match, they are likely to have a psychological edge over Tusker on this. Rwandese league has taken a two week break unlike Kenya’s that has just commenced and will be in progress despite the continental ties. Again, in their last mission in Kenya, APR were able to bring down mightily one of Kenya’s greatest clubs of all time Gor Mahia FC last year. Tusker FC will have to field their strongest possible squad to wrestle the formidable side of APR, and equally in the mind of Tusker’s Coach Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo, will be a tough league match that will on the waiting set for Wednesday at Kakamega’s Bukhungu stadium pitting his side and Western Stima FC (The club has made it clear that their title defense mission is on from the onset of things, this of course, makes this match equally important to them) The brewers coach has however gone on record insisting the match will be theirs for the taking. “We are prepared for our opponents, we have had good preparations and nothing can stop us from beating them” he said. His words sparks hope and anticipation in equal measure and it will be interesting to follow the affair and see whether the club will topple over the fierce rivals especially with the sidelining of key players due to injuries including central midfielder and dependable Chrispine Olando. Also to their advantage, their league opener against City Stars is a major boost to Tusker in the weekend assignment. Gor Mahia on the other hand will badly need a lot of inspiration to snatch victory in Mozambique. With a string of injuries, Coach Anaba Awono will have to explore different options to replace sensational players of striker Edwin Lavatsa, Baldwin Ngwa, Demonde Selenga and George Midenyo. A win away will not only boost their prospects in the continental race but will be a major morale catapult in their campaign locally to lift the coveted KPL crown that has been on their lust for ages now. Kenyanstar wishes the two clubs the very best as they represent the nation! {flike}{fsend} {fcomment}
