Each new day, there is the emergence of young talent all over the country and Kenyans should brace themselves to embrace such with enthusiasm. At the heart of Kisumu is a new 17 year old sensation from the region’s top academic quarter, Kisumu Boys high school.
Meet Defender Vincent Otieno, who besides being a jewel in the lakeside town , played a pivotal role in helping the under 17 team restore Kenya's dominant position in regional football by beating hosts and now finalists in CAF under 17 tournament Rwanda 3-2 to lift the CECAFA crown. For those with brilliant memories, you will recall that the same team, Rwanda is through to the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Born on the 17th of January in 1993, Vincent was instrumental in lifting his Kisumu Boys team to the Nyanza provincial Semi finals of last year’s Sakata Ball tournament organized and sponsored by Safaricom. Apart from that, another feather to his cap is that he has won the Nyanza Copa cola tournament with Kisumu Boys twice.
At 17 he has landed an invite to play in Italy between May 8-15 this year including another tour to Netherlands, England and Italy. He was recently shortlisted in the first eleven team of the Aspire academy trials that were held at the Moi sports centre Kasarani.
In an exclusive interview with Kenyanstar, Otieno poses an encouragement to upcoming players: ''Believe in yourselves and with extra work you will definitely rise to the top''.
The form four candidate at Kisumu Boys high school is currently training with Real Kisumu senior team and hopes to cut his niche in the starting 11 of the team.
