Tusker mantain top spot as second round of KPL matches begin

The second leg matches of the kenya premier league kicked off this weekend with top sides setting their eyes on the Championship.

Top placed Tusker fc battled hard to pick a point in their game against defending champions sofapaka on sunday afternoon at the city stadium and stay at the top of the Kenya premier league.The brewers started the game looking the brighter side of the two with Denis mukaisi and Emeke running rounds in the sofapaka defence. Edgar Ochieng and the newly signed George Owino however did well for sofapaka to contain the brewers onslaugt.


Sofapaka winger Bob Mugalia put his team in the lead after 19 minutes of play and the game was at 1 nill at the 45 minute mark. The second half saw Tusker introduce the sensational Paul were in place of Nigerian Emeke a substitution that bore fruits will Were striking one past wilson oburu in the 52nd minute.

The entertaining game was however distablised with the sending off of Jeff Oyando of tusker in the 72nd minute for a second yellow card. Sofapaka then took control of the and Bob Mugalia would have made it two if his chip had not hit the cross bar. The batoto ba mungu however had to be content with the draw as the ten man tusker prooved hard to crack.

In an earlier match at the same venue, a last minute goal by Abdul game Thika united a much needed victory 1-0 against Mahakama fc. Mahakama fc seemed the better side with several attempts at goal being saved by Thika custodian Okello, while Thika just happened to convert the only chance they had.

In other games of the weekend, Unbeaten Mathare United played to a goal less draw with Karuturi sports at the sher stadium while kcb fell to a 2-0 defeat by western stima.Chemilil sugar received a 4-1 beating from Gor mahia and red berets won 1-0 against sony sugar.

Nairobi city stars will play posta rangers on monday while second placed ulinzi has a chance of leveling their points tally with top side tusker, but only if they can beat the widely and wildy supported AFC leopards.
